A landscapers lens

Review by: PhotoBuff    Fairfax, VA 19 Mar 2011
What's great about it?
What's not so great?
The VR, ability to attach filters, constant f/4 throughout the zoom range build quality speak for themselves. The quality of the pictures it takes and what I mentioned was enough to make me click the buy button.I took an indoor handheld photo @ 1 second f/4 ISO 3200 with VR on and I was blown away. My 17-35 is going up for sale. But as the previous reviewer said there is distortion at 16mm, it can be corrected in PP.

Sharp Wide Zoom for Full Frame

Review by: PhotoMike    Camp Zama, Japan 08 Mar 2011
What's great about it?
sharp, VR, nice bokeh wide open
What's not so great?
distortion, heavy, big,
Since I purchased this lens 6-months ago, it's been my primary lens. Its sharp, contrasty and has great bokeh at f4. The VR works great allowing me to handhold at 1/4s exposures. I only have two negative comments: 1) Although it balances well on my D700, it's a very heavy lens. For it's size and weight, I wish it was an f2.8. 2) At the 16mm there is noticable distortion. However, PhotoShop or NX2 can correct the distortion and its gone by 20mm. Even with these two limitations, this lens is on my camera almost all the time. If I need something lighter and more compact, I reach for my 20mm f2.8, but it's not as sharp or versatile.
